Module 2

You have to hear and see it.

Key Points:

  • Before you start making your video - make sure you have good sound and good light.
  • A phone will give you adequate sound, but a microphone will help you isolate the sound so it is clearer. You can even use two phones to sync up the sound.
  • Shotgun and lapel mics are affordable and jack into your phone for direct sound.
  • Subjects also needs to be well lit and isolated by light. You need a good strong light on the front of the subject, but mainly you need to have the subject well lit.
  • Natural light can be variable which means that it might make your video inconsistent. Using artificial lighting means it can be controlled for consistency.
  • Phones are automatically lit and will adjust if you are outdoors.
  • If you want to do a lot of videos at home you can invest in a LED ring light, or light box for products. You can also buy inexpensive USB or lapel microphones.
