Module 3

Everything for everyone.

Key Points

  • We touched briefly on accessibility in Unit 2, but this module looks specifically at web accessibility conventions.
  • When it comes to websites, they have to comply with a global standard, accessibility involves a wide range of disabilities, including visual, auditory, physical, speech, cognitive, language, learning, and neurological.
  • Simple language – write for a 10 year old literacy level, no long blocks of text, and make it friendly for a page reader.
  • Label all your images with alt text accurately and use specific headings.
  • Think about colour, contrast, and white space. The better your design, the better it is for everyone, not just those who have different accessibility needs.
  • All of this must work on mobile devices too, if your website is older than 3 years you need to test, test, test.
